That totally happens at my university. There are paid parking lots on campus, and a free parking lot a bus ride away. The people that park there always say it feels isolating to know that you're really freaking far away from your car.
I was parking at the far-away-lot because I figured that with the buses it's worth saving some money. But then there was a day where it was down pouring and there were traffic issues so I decided I was better off walking. Once I made it all the way there to my car I determined it was worth the money to have somewhere closer to walk to if a similar situation ever comes up.
